Andy Warhol Exhibit in Yaletown

Yaletown warehouse will host pop-up Warhol exhibit

From the Factory in New York to a warehouse in Yaletown, 80 prints and paintings from Andy Warhol will be on display at a pop-up exhibition in Vancouver next month. Works in the “WARHOL – A Different Idea of Love” exhibition, which will include 18 pieces on canvas, come from the private collection of Los Angeles businessman Ron Rivlin and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

The exhibit will be staged, Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., in a warehouse at 1280 Homer Street from March 1 to 30. Admission will be free.

“The 80 pieces, as a collection have never been exhibited together under one roof,” Christopher Dohm of Maison AI, the show’s co-presenter along with Rivlin’s Revolver Gallery Beverly Hills, said in a release. “It is a rare opportunity to experience the master of the pop art movement … We will screen a movie; showcase coveted works, and for 30 days exhibit the largest collection of (Warhol) prints and paintings in Canada.”

Along with the art, the exhibit will also feature private Polaroids from Warhol’s collection, featuring some of the most famous people of the 20th century.

Andy Warhol asks Elizabeth Taylor for permission to take a picture of her, at the opening of designer Halston’s new salon in New York on Feb. 13, 1978.

Warhol died 28 years ago but, according to New York-researcher Artnet, he remains the top-selling artist in the world.

Bloomberg News reported on Dec. 30 that collectors paid $653.2 million for 1,295 works at auction in 2014.

Picasso, the second-biggest selling artist last year, had 2,820 of his works sold for $448. 7 million.
